ABSTRACT. Different year-classes of red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) grow to the same mean size during their first autumn of life in areas with a good food supply. Most parts of the cranium, mandible and long bones stop growing during the September-November period in yearlings. The zygomatic width is an exception and continues to grow throughout the winter. Several parts of the cranium and mandible continue to increase for many years. KEY WORDS: Vulpes vulpes, skeletal growth, age, food abundance.
